Greek hay or fenugreek (Triplat) Organic
Greek hay is an annual plant that grows to a height of around half a metre. The seeds, which are used as a spice, are found in the pods of this plant. It is also known as triplat or sword-leaved triplat, and in English as fenugreek.
Fenugreek is rich in protein, vitamins (particularly vitamin D) and minerals, as well as phenolic and flavonoid compounds. It has a pungent taste and a strong aroma. It is considered one of the oldest plants used in medicine and cooking.
It is most commonly associated with South Asian and Egyptian cuisine.
The seeds have a sweet flavour, reminiscent of nuts.

Storage
Store in a dry, dark and cool place. Ensure the bag or box is tightly sealed.

Uses
As a spice, fenugreek is an important ingredient in curries. It is also used to season sauces, bread, potatoes, rice and vegetables. It goes well with beans and salads. I briefly toast the seeds in a hot pan before use.
According to Arabic recipes, it can be used to make an excellent tea. Pour hot water over the seeds and leave to stand for 5–10 minutes, then strain. It can also be drunk cold.
