Organic black maca powder

Maca is a root vegetable that thrives in the highlands of Peru and the Andes, exposed to extreme weather conditions and significant temperature differences between day and night. It is also known as Peruvian ginseng. As it is virtually indestructible, the ancient Incas already made use of its active ingredients, which are particularly effective for male sexual potency and have a beneficial effect on general health. It is precisely for this reason that it is considered an extremely valuable superfood.

The medicinal part of maca is the root, which contains large amounts of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Thanks to substances that act similarly to hormones, it regulates the levels of oestrogen and progesterone or testosterone, which has a beneficial effect on our well-being and gives us strength and stamina. Its content of important vitamins, such as vitamins B1, B12, C and E, as well as fatty acids, minerals and amino acids (including 7 essential ones – those our body absolutely needs), makes maca one of the most effective, sought-after and recommended natural superfoods with a tradition stretching back several millennia.

It is an adaptogenic plant, which boosts energy, stamina, vitality and physical strength. It helps us cope with stress and adapt more easily to change. It most commonly grows in the Andes in central Peru, in harsh conditions and at very high altitudes – over 4,000 metres. It is a cruciferous vegetable, like broccoli, cauliflower, turnip, cabbage, kale and radish. The most edible part of the plant is the root or tuber. It comes in several colours, ranging from white to black. The most popular are yellow, red and black. Ordinary yellow maca is used for everyday purposes and for long-term consumption. Red and black maca, on the other hand, are considered sacred varieties and are used for chronic therapeutic conditions. Yellow maca is neutral. Red maca is associated with inner feminine energy. Black maca, on the other hand, is associated with outer masculine energy. Local shamans pay particular attention to the type or ratio of maca that a person with health issues should consume.

It has a very sweet taste and a wide range of uses.

Black maca accounts for only around 10 per cent of global production of all types of maca. It is also highly prized for its medicinal uses.

Why choose our maca?

Our maca powder comes from certified organic cultivation, carefully dried and ground into a flour-like powder. What’s more, we regularly ensure that our maca stocks are always fresh! This is another reason why we carefully prepare the blend ourselves, as this is the only way we can guarantee its purity with fresh ingredients in the correct proportions.

Maca comes from Peruvian high-altitude organic farms. We have carried out analyses and hold a valid certificate for each batch.

Usage

Maca can be consumed every day, but we nevertheless recommend taking a day off once a week. We recommend that women take it three times a week, as it can shorten the menstrual cycle and cause breast tenderness.

The starting dose should be a third of a teaspoon daily, which should be increased after a couple of days to one teaspoon daily.

We recommend taking black maca only for a specific period of time, such as one month. Black maca is usually used for chronic therapeutic conditions. For long-term use, (yellow) maca is more suitable.

As maca fills us with energy, we advise against taking it in the evening. Some recommend taking it first thing in the morning to help you wake up. Others suggest taking it in the afternoon, when hormone and energy levels are at their lowest.

Mix it into your favourite drink – water, juice, a smoothie, yoghurt, etc. To make it easier to digest, you can also heat it or use it to make desserts and other dishes; you can also add it to hot drinks such as hot chocolate, coffee or tea.

It goes perfectly with the flavour of cocoa. As it is gluten-free, it can also be used as a flour substitute in certain dishes.
