Organic ginger powder
Ginger is a plant native to Asia. The part we use for consumption is actually the thickened underground stem or rhizome. It has been used for medicinal and nutritional purposes for millennia, and its effectiveness continues to amaze us even today. Ginger contains plenty of antioxidants, minerals and compounds that have anti-inflammatory effects on our bodies; for this reason, it is most commonly used – particularly in combination with lemon and honey – during the flu season, for sore throats and colds, as it has a soothing effect on all the symptoms of these ailments. It is also effective in combating nausea, as it soothes an upset stomach and pleasantly warms the stomach and body. Dried ginger powder has a full-bodied and aromatic flavour, somewhat reminiscent of lemon, and has a characteristic spicy note. Compared to fresh ginger, dried ginger is more aromatic and pungent, so care must be taken when measuring it out.

Uses
It is used in soups, sauces and for preparing poultry, roasted vegetables, stews, meat and fish dishes – particularly sweet-and-sour ones. It also enhances the flavour of rice dishes, pickled vegetables and fruit – it complements the flavour of apples and pears particularly well, as well as bananas, melons and pineapples. It is also added to biscuit and cake mixtures and as an ingredient in lemonade and (iced) tea. It blends well with other exotic spices, such as cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. Ginger is an integral part of curry. When using ground ginger in cooked dishes, it is important to add it at the end of cooking, as cooking causes beneficial compounds to be lost and the dish will become more pungent.
As it is effective at alleviating nausea, it can be used to treat travel sickness; it is also effective for the nausea typical of the first trimester of pregnancy, as well as for nausea caused by chemotherapy; of course, always consult your doctor before use.
For ginger to achieve the desired results, half a teaspoon up to three times a day is sufficient, either as and when needed or as part of a weekly course of treatment.
