Rosehip (Rosa canina)

As far back as the Sumerians, rosehip – or the so-called wild rose (scientific name Rosa canina); here, it is also known as ‘grandmother’s tooth’, ‘dog rose’ or ‘wild rose’. Its use dates back to around 3000 BC. The dog rose is a vigorous shrub that can grow up to 3 metres tall, with star-shaped pink flowers. The fruits, which are used for medicinal purposes, are red in colour with a hard skin, and are known as rosehip berries.

Rosehip powder is obtained from dried fruits (rosehip berries), which are harvested in October and November. The most important components of rosehip are preserved by drying the fruits slowly at a temperature of up to 40˚C. Once the drying process is complete, the dried rosehip is finely ground into a powder.
