Organic chia seeds

Chia seeds are the edible seeds of the plant Salvia hispanica, which is also known in Slovenian as oil sage. They originate from Central and South America, and were consumed by ancient warriors to boost their energy in battle. They were already known to the Maya and Aztecs, who regularly included them in their diet, as they were convinced that they provided strength, energy and stamina.

Chia seeds are particularly rich in:

💚 omega-3 fatty acids,
💚 protein,
💚 carbohydrates,
💚 minerals such as iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium,
💚 dietary fibre,
💚 antioxidants.

Our chia seeds come from organic farming.

Just 20 g of chia seeds a day provides almost 30 per cent of your daily dietary fibre requirement. They absorb water, thereby slowing down digestion in the stomach.

Uses and recommended daily amounts

Chia seeds can be added to muesli, yoghurt or fruit smoothies, or simply consumed with water. They can also be added to salads, bread dough, sauces, soups and dressings. Chia seeds can also be used to make desserts or puddings. Due to their water-binding properties, they will thicken these dishes. Cooking can destroy the seeds’ beneficial properties, so we recommend adding them at the end of cooking or eating them raw.

Chia seeds have a neutral flavour, so they will not alter the taste of your food.

It is advisable to soak them in water for 10 minutes before use, but there is no need to grind them beforehand, as is usually done with flaxseeds.

The recommended daily intake is up to 20 g of chia seeds, which is equivalent to 1 heaped tablespoon.

Ingredients

Organically grown chia seeds.
